THE MMBTVA’S honor the most exception talent world wide. This vibrant community of artists honors all fine arts and is not limited to community activists and leaders of peace.
This years artists such as; Phantom power, Eye’z, Matt Thompson, Cleetus Yesk, Pam R Johnson Davis, DJ LyonHead and Isadore Piper, Sharon Manuel & Gregory Hickman-Williams were honored.
Sharon Manuel Received an honor for her years of teaching in the SFBAY area.
Sharon Manuel started teaching in 1974 and by 1975 she met Gregory Hickman Williams at Oakland High as her accompanist. Greg Played the piano she her class and became fast friends with Sharon and continued to push for education in music. Sharon and Greg performed at Trinity United Methodist Church in 1983 one of the recordings was recently found and restored. Greg’s Timeless performance was nominated for Best Lyric Video and won. His award was accepted on his behalf by Sharon Manuel.
The song “No Images” was originally a poem written by William Waring Cuney and adapted to a song by Nina Simone.
“I really liked the lyric video, it was innovative and beautifully made the meaning of the song clearer” Says Sharon Manuel after viewing the video.
