Social media is buzzing with clips from the upcoming reality show “Left Behind.” Federal prisoner Jamila T. Davis (@jamilatdavis), a 39 year old, single mother of two, created this show to bring awareness to the epidemic of women and prison. The show, which is hosted by Davis’s son, Kywuan Warren, follows the lives of children whose mothers are serving time in federal prison.
“When my mother was sentenced to 12 1/2 years for bank fraud, my sister and I felt hopeless. It was hard making it all these years in the absence of our mother. But we made it! . . . Our show was created to expose the struggle of children of incarcerated women. It shows others in our same position they can make it too,” states Kywuan Warren, a 19 year old college student who is a successful rapper and clothing line owner. Warren is also a co-creator and executive producer of the show.
“Left Behind” is apart of the WomenOverIncarcerated movement started by Davis from behind bars. Her goal is to change the face of women in prison and to gain relief for female offenders who are serving decade plus sentences for nonviolent crimes.
